{"id":105,"date":"2019-10-28T19:07:04","date_gmt":"2019-10-29T00:07:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/knowyouraudience.net\/?p=105"},"modified":"2019-11-06T15:56:48","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T21:56:48","slug":"partisan-divide-overview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/knowyouraudience.net\/?p=105","title":{"rendered":"Partisan Divide Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We learn about division in elementary school.&nbsp; Mathematical division is harmless and often\nuseful to make sense out of nonsense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And what about division among and between people?&nbsp; And how does it happen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Divisiveness, discord, disunity and schism happens when we\nstubbornly hang on to unexamined bias and prejudice which is a fancy way of\ndescribing narrow-mindedness.&nbsp; And we\ncling to this dangerous condition because of fear and anxiety. Fear and anxiety\nare both future oriented.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some things are flat out unacceptable.&nbsp; The current discontent and sickness in our\ncountry is more than a political schism.&nbsp;\nOur way of life has been ruptured.&nbsp;\nMembers of congress used to be social friends, bipartisan parties were\ncommon, issues could be addressed without being nasty or losing heart-felt\nconvictions.&nbsp; The job of governing has\nbecome the work of non-leaders and mis-managers.&nbsp; We elect 535 people to make good law, and\nthey are failing.&nbsp; Why do we keep them in\noffice?&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Social security is going broke.<\/li><li>Medicare is going broke.<\/li><li>Immigration reform is a joke.<\/li><li>Healthcare is in limbo or worse.<\/li><li>Schools are a war zone.<\/li><li>Infrastructure is aging and dangerous<\/li><li>Climate change is real and out of control.<\/li><li>And where is your voice?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Complacency is costly and unacceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>History holds examples of positive alternatives.&nbsp; The Minnesota Legislature&nbsp; used to meet only every other year.&nbsp; In the years in-between, bipartisan\ncommissions were established to explore the major issues of their time.&nbsp; Legislative sessions were shorter and more\nproductive \u2013 the hard work was already done.&nbsp;\nImagine that \u2013 two parties working together!&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will share other like examples as we move forward.&nbsp; There will be stories that illustrate better\npractice when facing challenging situations.&nbsp;\nYour comments and inputs are most welcome as we begin a conversation\nintended to lead us to better results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, there are productive ways to overcome fear and\nanxiety.&nbsp; The stories we describe in this\nsegment reveal how we can boldly defeat these conditions by engaging in the\npower of platinum communication instead of insisting on treating people the way\nI want to be treated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We learn about division in elementary school.&nbsp; Mathematical division is harmless and often useful to make sense out of nonsense.
