{"id":150,"date":"2019-12-04T16:12:36","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T22:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/knowyouraudience.net\/?p=150"},"modified":"2019-12-04T16:31:09","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T22:31:09","slug":"level-1-component-1-know-your-audience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/knowyouraudience.net\/?p=150","title":{"rendered":"Tutorial: Level 1 Component 1: Know Your Audience"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Level 1: Know Your Audience<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Audience may be one person or one thousand.&nbsp; Audiences expect respect, and a respectful\nrelationship leads to authentic communication.&nbsp;\nWhen you care enough to probe, even gently, you have authentic\ncommunication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Level 1 of the\nPlatinum Communications pyramid has only one component.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;\nKnow your audience.<\/a>&nbsp; <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The intensity of the challenge of discovering\nthe values, beliefs, cultural backgrounds, and feelings increases with audience\nsize.&nbsp; Failing to know your audience\nlimits and inhibits interaction.&nbsp; Knowing\nyour audience enhances engagement.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How do we get to know the audience?&nbsp; Listen more, talk less.&nbsp; Ask, then tell.&nbsp; The purpose of listening is not agreement but\nunderstanding.&nbsp; Active listeners concentrate, understand, respond and remember\nwhat is&nbsp; said.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your audience,\nregardless of size, needs understanding.&nbsp;\nTo understand them, listen to what they say.&nbsp; Ask them what they expect to learn.&nbsp; Rephrasing and restating the audience\nexpectations demonstrates listening.&nbsp; When\nthe audience knows you listened, they begin to trust you and strive to\nunderstand your message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interpret\nbody language to develop an accurate understanding of the message and then <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paraphrase\">paraphrase<\/a> the speaker&#8217;s\nwords.
