\u201cI work with doctors.\u201d \nShe wanted more. \u201cWhat do you do\nwith them?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI often begin by asking them to share the purpose of their\nlife.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat do they say?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSome say their purpose is to be a healer; some say it is to\nmake life easier for others; some say to support my family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then the surprise question. \n\u201cWhat is your purpose, Grandpa?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No child had ever asked me that question. And that prompted an inner soliloquy. \u201cI don\u2019t want her walking away thinking, WHAT\nDID HE SAY? I wanted her to understand\nexactly what I was feeling and thinking. \nMy language must be clear and to the point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRachel, the purpose of my life is to help others do well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her immediate response was practical. \u201cCan you help me play pool better?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI can.\u201d I helped\nher, and she won the game. I loved the\ndefeat. She doesn\u2019t remember the\nevent. I will never forget it. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
