{"id":95,"date":"2019-10-22T18:04:21","date_gmt":"2019-10-22T23:04:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/knowyouraudience.net\/?p=95"},"modified":"2019-10-22T18:09:42","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T23:09:42","slug":"tutorial-1-need-for-better-communications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/knowyouraudience.net\/?p=95","title":{"rendered":"Tutorial 1: Need for Better Communications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Communicating in Today\u2019s World<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s old and what\u2019s new?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a huge subject.&nbsp;\nWhat\u2019s old since the beginning of creation is communication.&nbsp; Some people spoke, only a few listened, and\nfewer yet responded.&nbsp; And what\u2019s\nnew?&nbsp; That\u2019s no mystery any longer.&nbsp; It\u2019s how to communicate effectively.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Communication is the foundation for relationships and\nteamwork.&nbsp; Relationships and teamwork are\nvaluable for each of us.&nbsp; Yet as we look\naround, both appear to be doing poorly.&nbsp;\nWe all communicate \u2013 yet \u2013 how good are we at it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tor Dahl has led productivity improvement for organizations\nall over the world.&nbsp; He founded the World\nAcademy for Productivity and has consulted with over 400 high level\norganizations.&nbsp; Tor pinpoints that\norganizations experience \u2018log-jams\u2019 that diminish productivity, and like logs\nmoving down a river, logjams occur when logs get crosswise with one\nanother.&nbsp; Breaking up an organizational\nlogjam requires finding the key log that locks the logjam in place.&nbsp; In most cases, Tor finds the key log is \u2013\ncommunication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minnesota Medical Insurance Corporation (MMIC) insures over\n25,000 doctors, 1,000 clinics, and 200 hospitals.&nbsp; MMIC finds that nearly 60% of malpractice\nlawsuits are brought due to poor communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For two decades, Emotional Intelligence (EQ) has swept\nthrough organizations pointing out that EQ is different than IQ (intelligence)\nand is just as important.&nbsp; EQ includes\nhow you manage relationships with others, a communication challenge.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AWL Group finds when asking cohorts what traits they\nassociate with \u2018best leaders\u2019, invariably, most traits identified are EQ related.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David Horslager wrote, The Trust Edge, establishing how\nimportant trust is when dealing with others.&nbsp;\nDavid has become a featured speaker around the nation as people wrestle\nwith building trusted relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our political parties have communication issues with one\nanother.&nbsp; Traditional churches are having\ntrouble attracting members.&nbsp; We struggle\nto accept immigrants who are different from us.&nbsp;\nSocial media is changing how individuals interact with one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Few of us are good enough at communication.&nbsp; Why?&nbsp;\nIf we all do it and do it often, why are we not better at it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In this era of\nmistrust and division, communication with our various audiences must improve.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stumbling blocks for resolving complex issues are not\nthe technical aspects of problems.&nbsp;\nRather, people problems stop progress.&nbsp;\nPeople are complex, and each brings unique perspectives to every\nsituation.&nbsp; Gaining alignment is\ndifficult within groups of individuals each with different facts; differences\nin what is important to them; or different solutions.&nbsp; Establishing common reality; finding common\nground; and supporting common purpose pose challenges in most situations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Platinum Communication<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our world is complex and complicated.&nbsp; It requires that we deal with others who are\ndifferent from us.&nbsp; We need to be aware\nof those differences.&nbsp; We need to\nestablish trusted relationships with others who we do not know well.&nbsp; We need a guide through these\ncomplexities.&nbsp; We need Platinum\nCommunication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Platinum Communication is based on this\nprinciple:&nbsp; \u201cTreat others the way they\nwant to be treated.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Platinum Communication is <strong><em>transformative.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>How does transformation happen?&nbsp; <\/em><\/strong>Not easily.It can happen in biology,\nmathematics, linguistics, physics and in a single human being or a group of\npeople.&nbsp; It involves a radical change in\nperspective and behavior.&nbsp; And we\ninterpret \u2018radical\u2019 as dealing with the basics of whatever issue is being\nchallenged.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can you imagine how extremely complicated it is to \u2018treat\nothers the way they want to be treated\u2019? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Platinum Communication demands that you understand the\ndifferent perspectives of the other person.&nbsp;&nbsp;\nIt requires that you recognize their differences are important to\nthem.&nbsp; It requires you to use their\nlanguage to explore these differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Understanding how others wish to be treated requires asking\nthe right questions; having them explain clearly what they mean; listening closely\nto what they say; determining what is important to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Platinum Communication raises the bar for communication with\nothers who are different than us.&nbsp; It\nrequires communicating at the highest level.&nbsp;\nThe intent and purpose of Platinum Communication is communicating with\nothers in ways that reach them.&nbsp; Platinum\nCommunication guides us to deeper awareness of the differences of others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Communicating in Today\u2019s World What\u2019s old and what\u2019s new?
