The Platinum Rule

“Treat Others the Way They Want to Be Treated”

As a pastor, coach of pastors, and counselor/coach to physicians, I wondered why conflict existed between pastors and congregations and between physicians and their staff, clinics and patients. Often, it was because the pastor or physician did not take the time to understand or inquire about the needs of their respective audience(s). Many assumed their values and beliefs were the same as the persons they were serving. This critical mistake led to unexpected conflicts.

This observation led me to examine my values and beliefs as coach/counselor. “Treating others the way I wanted to be treated” was inadequate. “Treat others the way THEY want to be treated” became the alternative. ‘Knowing my audience’ was critical to helping others find authentic healing. This practice became my guiding principle.

The Platinum Rule is simple and direct.  “Treat others the way they want to be treated.”   Know your audience first and then act.  Avoid acting without really knowing the other person.  The Platinum Rule puts others first.

This blog will help us think differently about how we get to know and treat others.  The Platinum Rule is the new paradigm or model for human development.  Our BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) for this blog is to demonstrate that the Platinum Rule is Transformative.

This blog pursues two parallel tracks (see Menu Bar):

  • Platinum Communications Framework.
  • Aspirations/Goals.

We will publish the full Platinum Communications book.

  • December 2020, Book Available now on Amazon  https://www.amazon.com/Platinum-Communication-Treating-Others-Treated/dp/0940916150
  • We can share the full book with you electronically.
  • Our goal is to edit to get a 120 page book.
  • The tutorial is about 20 pages in all.
  • The rest are stories that illustrate various aspects of the communications framework.
  • Our intent is to publish about 2-3 blogs per week until whole book is out.

We invite your comments, agreements, disagreements, and questions together with suggestions for the improvement of how this rule leads to authentic relationships – personal, national and international.  It’s a big order.  We need to hear from you.  The blog will publish regularly, and all comments will be shared.

We thank you in advance for your interest and contribution.

How do you want to be treated?
