Platinum Rule: Treat Others the Way They Want to Be Treated.

Know your audience first and then act.  Avoid acting without really knowing the other person.  Put others first.  Think differently about how to know and treat others.  This new paradigm is the new model for human development. This practice is transformative.

Transformation is never easy.  There is a lot to do.  Getting to know ‘how others want to be treated’ is challenging – and – you are the one who must meet the challenge.

Platinum Communications is the orderly skills framework that shapes the Platinum Rule for everyday use.  It structures the wide range of communication skills that collectively position you to deeply understand others.

The framework was not in our minds when we started.  Our purpose was to share a lifetime of stories.  As the stories appeared, we grouped them.  As the stories accumulated, their grouping suggested they fit into a hierarchy.  Eventually the hierarchy emerged.   To our surprise, all the stories fit into that structure’s components.  This convinced us that the structure was real – and – of exceptional value.

This structure will be described in a Tutorial delivered as 3 separate posts:

  • Tutorial 1: Need for Improved Communication Skills
  • Tutorial 2: The Four Levels within Platinum Communications
  • Tutorial 3: The Ten Components of Platinum Communications

We will also share experiential stories that demonstrate these skills in practice. These are real stories about and from real people who lived through a lot, personally and professionally.  We explore the people we’ve known and worked with over thirty years who are nothing short of extraordinary.  And we mean extraordinary, not ordinary.  We realize we have been gifted with experiential gold.  The stories are the lifeblood of individuals with compassion, humor, and conviction.

These stories will tickle your funny bone, bring tears to dry eyes, and cause you to reflect on your own experience.  They demonstrate the profound difficulty in finding the words needed for challenging situations and provide insights and words for meeting these challenges.  So, who are these people?  They are:

  • Pastors,
  • Physicians,
  • CEOs,
  • Nurses,
  • Parents,
  • Coaches,
  • Students,
  • Grandparents,
  • Humorists,
  • Master teachers,
  • Lecturers,
  • Deans of education,
  • Teachers, and
  • Administrators.

What did we learn?

We learned communication is a common goal and problem.  Individuals and organizations are plagued with misrepresentations, misunderstandings, and missed opportunities because of sloppy communication.

We learned that Platinum Communication is transformative.  Platinum Communication has special significance for a world that is struggling with globalization, increasing complexity and an accelerating rate of change.

Those who undertake this journey with us will be rewarded with a road map to richer conversations, common ground around difficult issues, and a multitude of deepened relationships with wonderfully diverse people.

And you will delight in exciting and breathtaking stories from real people.
